• Taking samples from the shore tanks to test and ensure the tanks are fit to hold the product
• Being present at the laboratory in order to supervise the tests and analyses
• Taking samples from the product in the ship tanks and measuring the quantity of the shipment
• Performing tests on the samples taken from the ship tanks to ensure that the quality is right and fit for discharging into the shore tanks; and if so, allowing discharge to begin
• Determining the Remain on Board (ROB) quantity after completion of discharge
• If the shore tanks are calibrated, measuring the quantity in the shore tanks as received from the vessel 
• Filling in and completing the inspection forms
• Making out the protest letters, if required
• Issuing the required certificates
